medical insurance

Lonely Planet guide Book says it is compulsory for foreign visitors to have medical travel insurance. Does the travelinsurance purchased from Tauck qualify for this requirement?

  • Hello snm,

Yes it does, as of May 2010, the Cuban government requires all foreigners visiting Cuba to carry medical insurance under an approved plan to visit Cuba. Cuba offers medical care through a network of clinics and hospitals covering every corner of the island. Basic health care is available at your hotel in Havana with an on-call physician 24 hours a day. As part of the cost of your People-to-People trip, all Tauck guests will receive medical coverage for the duration of your journey in Cuba.

In addition, Tauck also offers a Guest Protection Plan for Cuba which provides an array of additional benefits such as cancellation protection, baggage delay protection, trip delay coverage to name a few. Please inquire with our Reservations team for more details.

    Hope this helps,
    Tauck Emily
  • Emily, we just got back from Cuba; my husband had reason to access the doctor on call in the hotel. He was very happy with their prompt response and care.
But just to clarify, we were billed for this, in spite of showing them our papers and information from Tauck. For some reason, we were under the impression that the
medical coverage was free...this was not the case for us. Not complaining, just clarifying.

  • Is the insurance in Cuba through Berkeley Care? We had to call a doctor for my husband when we were in Israel. We did have to pay him at the time but we put in a claim to Berkeley Care when we came home and were reimbursed. They were wonderful to deal with. The only problem we encountered was with Aetna. The claim had to be put through our own insurance plan first and they were very difficult to deal with because the bill was not made out exactly as they required.
