Footwear, Turtles, Other People?

We're going on the late June trip (starting on the 24th maybe?), and I was curious to collect anyone's opinion on footwear. We all have sturdy hiking boots, but are any of the walks/hikes long enough to warrant serious boots? Or would we be better off with Keens or something similar?

Second question - I see that there is turtle observation for tours that start in July. So no turtles at the end of June, or just not a high enough chance to warrant a special night trip? Might the hotel offer an opportunity, out of the scope of the tour, to do a night walk?

Third question - We're bringing an 11- and 13-year old. Anyone else bringing similarly-aged kids?

Can't wait!!!
