Preparing for Jan. 13 trip
With the trip just 2 weeks away, I have a couple of specific questions. I am wondering what the "Teva-style sandals" are for? Does that mean flip-flops or heavier sandles that can get wet? Also, we arrive in Santiago a day early. We arrive on Saturday and want to see some of the city that we will not see with the group. We prefer not to do a 3-4 hour city tour, so I am looking for advise on what and how to plan. We have booked a trip to Vina del Mar and Valpariso for Sunday.

The "Teva-like" sandals, are not necessary. Most important are comfortable, worn-in walking shoes with ankle support. Walking trails can be wet and muddy.
As for a city tour of Santiago, perhaps the hotel concierge can help you. Tauck's city sightseeing includes a visit to Plaza de Armas and riding the funicular up San Cristobal Hill for views of the entire cityscape.
Hope this helps,
Emily
