Altitude

I suffer from a type of anaemia and have been advised not to ascend past about 6500 feet (~2200 metres). Tauck have given me a list of the altitudes of the towns visited while on Essence of South America and they are all fine. However I am concerned that there may be mountain passes or sections of the road where the altitude exceeds 6500 feet. Does anybody have any knowledge of that?
Thanks,
Boris of Adelaide

My wife suffers at altitude and we had the same concern about this trip. However, the pass over the Andes is quite low (3000 ft?) and she was fine.

Airlines pressurize so that passengers experience 9000 ft environments.
No problems with this trip as you will never exceed the airline "altitudes".

I didn't know that. Explains why my reading glasses don't work on planes. I suffer from transient myopia at altitudes! Must be getting old. Can't say I remember this happening on previous long haul flights. Maybe my memory is going, too.
