Travel to So. Am in December 2011

I'm taking the Tauck Essence of So. Am in December 2011. I understand that the trip is considered casual, however, I've run into dress restrictions on other "casual" tours. So, my questions is...are shorts acceptable? I understand the issues with mosquitoes, but prefer wearing shorts when appropriate.

    my family and I are on the same trip as well...since it is summer in South america during this time the majority of clothes that we are packing are shorts, etc. So, you will not be alone with the casual look and comfort!
