Weather and clothes for September in Switzerland

We're going on the trip leaving September 11th. We're wondering about the weather, and especially the clothes to take. Shorts? Short-sleeve shirts? Or slacks and long-sleeves? What about jackets? And, the dress for dinner?

    We're going a week after you. We plan to travel 'layered' as we did in Iceland- light sweaters and rain/wind jackets in a small back pack for daily carry. When down in the valleys, shouldn't need more than a long sleeve shirt and long pants during the day and maybe a light sweater after dinner. Sunhat might be a good idea, too. I will bring a microfiber sports jacket and my wife will wear tops and skirts or a dress for dinners at the hotels. Enjoy the trip. We're really looking forward to it.

    We are also on the Sept. 11th tour, but will be arriving two days early. Layering is the right approach - you can shed outer layers if the weather is warmer than expected. We will be packing some dressier clothes for the dinners in the hotels.
