Tipping in Egypt and Jordan

I have a question about tipping when eating out on your own in Egypt and Jordan. Do you use the currency of the country or did you use American dollars?

We did both. We just made sure it was cash, even if you pay with a credit card or charge to room.

A good point about leaving cash when charging to the room...

In countries with a freely traded currency, I think people generally prefer local currency because they don't have to exhange the dollars (paying a fee in the process) to use the funds. If you're tipping with USD, they may want only pristine and/or recent bills.

Yes, I forgot that point too. If using dollars, use new bills. We got 100 new $1s and 20 new $5s from the bank before leaving. That goes for many countries.
