Australia & New Zealand - March 12th tour

Several questions related to the Australia and New Zealand tour:

While we've seen a number of references to casual dress on the tour, not sure if shorts are appropriate dress for men during the day. Can anyone provide advise based on experience?

Has anyone used ATM machines in Australia and New Zealand? They work for US based banks in Europe, but not sure about Australia and New Zealand.

Luggage - we were going to get 28" suitcases for the trip, but it appears that they may be too large on for the tour bus. Should we opt for the 25" suitcases?

  • As an Australian perhaps I can help.

Shorts are everyday wear in Australia for both men and women and you would not be out of place during any day of the tour. I live in North Queensland and wear shorts (weather permitting) most days of the year.

If you have a 4 digit pin number your cards should be acceptable in any of our ATM machines. My card worked in Europe and the US and it has a 4 digit pin number.

I'm sorry but I can't help you with the size of your luggage.

Hope this was of some help.

  • Hi,

I just did this tour in November and it was Fantastic!!! Shorts are definitely appropriate during the day! When I went Australia was much warmer than New Zealand and you want to be comfortable on tour.

We used ATMs in both New Zealand and Australia, just make sure that you inform your bank that you'll be travelling overseas and make sure that their card works there. I can't remember if the card we used was on the NYCE system and theirs was CIRRUS or vice versa, either way, it worked fine. We also used the Casino in New Zealand to exchange some cash that we had and that was easy, too.

Regarding Luggage, I purchased a 28 or 29 inch new bag when I booked the trip and panicked when I read the documents that we received after final payment. I called Tauck to check w/them (as I noticed the measurement requirements 2 days before leaving) and they said the size wasn't as much of an issue as the weight. We had a luggage scale type of item and we were always under the 50 lbs so we were fine the entire 21 days of our trip. Whether you take the 25" or the 28" is completely up to you!!! Just remember to leave room for souveniers!!

    Enjoy!
