Best of the Canadian Rockies--weather/clothing

Our trip begins May 25th. How is the weather that time of year? I'd appreciate any suggestions on the appropriate clothing to bring due to the weather. Is a winter coat necessary? What kind of shoes will be necessary? Thanks!!

    Pack layers! Things you can wear all at once if you have to! No, really...;) It can turn chilly in the mountains at any time.... Check the WeatherChannel.com for monthly averages as a guide. I don't think you'd need a heavy coat, more like a jacket that will block the wind and allow another layer underneath if necessary. I usually pack a pair of thick tights that I can wear under summer weight trousers if it all goes pear-shaped! Then I buy a scarf at the nearest gift shop. By now, I have a million of them! Oh, and a pair of closed trainers rather then open sandals. Not as pretty, but practical. You can always buy socks in gift shops!
