Paris and Provence Day 6

The itinerary for day six mentions:
Arc De Triomphe
Place de la Concorde
Eifel Tower
Notre Dame

We are planning to extend our stay several days beyond the tour date and are wondering if these attractions are visited or drive bys. The tour materials uses the word "overview" but not what is visited.

Thanks in advance for your insight.

  • Hi SEWT,

We took our 18 year old granddaughter on this wonderful tour several years ago. Day 6 is an overview which means photo stops. We took her to the Eifel Tower at night. I understand that now you can get tickets on line as the lines tend to be long especially during Spring Break or Summer. We had a book with us with the top ten sights and she picked which museums she wanted to see. If you use the buses, you will get a beautiful tour of Paris from above ground. We've been there before and didn't use the Underground because of this. We asked the concierge to arrange a tour company to pick us up to take us to Versaille so we wouldn't have to wait in lines. The driver obtained our tickets and audio and got us into the Palace before the long lines. She picked us up several hours later.

Do plan on staying in Paris longer so you can see as much as you want.

    Sheila
  • We have found that in any new city we visit doing the hop on hop off bus is a great way to see everything. Viator has one in Paris that has four different routes as opposed to the standard 9 or 10 stops. There is another one also, but prices out a bit higher. We have not purchased these tickets online as we would like to see what the more expensive bus tour offers for the difference in price. I read somewhere that there is a river cruise included with some of the bus tours so we will wait till we get there and hopefully the hotel will have their brochures. We will do a two day pass on our upcoming trip as getting on and off takes time. We have never found that buying tickets in advance was needed--there are many buses, what was important was the company we chose as some do offer more.
We did purchase our tickets online for a trip up the Eiffel Tower. Tickets are sold according to particular time slots so you may want to look that up now.
It is important to understand the wording in the itineraries. We will visit, etc. You can call Tauck with specific questions on this and they will clarify.
  • The Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame are drive bys. There is a stop at the Eiffel tower but from a distance. Place de Concorde is a photo stop. We also stayed a couple of days after the tour and revisited a lot of areas. Don't miss the Eiffel tower at night. Our tour director, Dixie (outstanding!!!!!) gave us a how to use the metro lesson so we went all over Paris on our own with no problems. I strongly recommend you figure out the metro while you are there. Pretty easy to use.
