I use a Baggallini tote as my person item and pack a smaller crossbody purse in my carry-on (though it would fit in my tote). Never had a problem.1 -

If you have extra local currency that you don't want to bring home, you can use it to pay for hotel incidental charges (and make up the difference on your credit card).1 -

I, too, responded to the e-mail survey saying that I had no interest at all in the shorter tours because of the need to amortize the airfare over more days.1
