Since we can't update the "About me" field, I thought I'd put some information here.
I'm a retired electrical engineer, having spent the majority of my career in communications. I hold 32 US patents, mostly on communications subjects.
Although it was not the focus of my career work, I have a decent knowledge of power distribution, both in the US and internationally, especially for residential service. I also have some knowledge of three-phase and single-phase electric motors and their control systems, but mostly only smaller motors maybe up to 10HP.
After I retired, I took classes in woodworking and developed some level of skill. I've taught woodworking classes, short courses, in veneering, carving, dovetails, and box-making. I’ve built a lot of furniture for our home, to the point where my wife told me she doesn’t have room for any more in our house😊
My wife, Judy, and I travel a couple of times a year and I document our trips on our blog, www.mikeandjudytravel.com

Re: how is customs handled when tour crosses countries? (doing Douro River cruise)
I'm fairly sure that Portugal and Spain are both part of the EU so there won't be any "border crossing" involved. (View Post)3 -

Re: Best month for this tour
While we had some rain on the tour we took, it never interfered with our enjoyment of the tour. For the science-minded people on the forum, look at Claudia’s picture and note that the picture is dark… (View Post)2 -
Re: Laundry options during Best of Ireland trip
I have the opposite attitude. The hotel laundry service is way too expensive. Rather than pay all that money to the hotel, I'll spend a few minutes walking to a place like Brite Wash, and pay on… (View Post)2
