Suggestions for Traveling from Rome to Sorrento in Oct.

Does anyone have a suggestion for the best way to go from Rome to Sorrento. We are on the Venice Florence Rome trip in October and are adding on two days in Sorrento when the trip ends in Rome. We don't want to fly or drive ourselves so options seem to be train or bus or private car.
We are first time visitors to Italy ---any suggestions?

Have you thought about what you want to see and do while in Sorrento- Capri, Amalfi Coast, or places in Naples (Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius, National Archaeological Museum, Stabia, Flavian Amphitheater in Pozzuoli, etc.)?

It can take an hour or more (depending on traffic) to travel from Sorrento to Naples. If you intend to see any attractions in and around Naples, you might want to consider a car/driver/guide to drive you from Rome and see a few of the attractions in Naples on the way to your hotel in Sorrento. DriverinItaly can handle that as well as arrange for a guide for a day trip to Capri. We used them for two days in 2016 and they were great
