Question about Venice, Florence, Rome tour

We are taking this trip in June of 2023. Can anyone who has been on this trip tell me how much free time we have in Rome to see the sights other than the ones listed in the itinerary? I am thinking of adding another day to our trip if we will not have a chance to see the Pantheon, Forum, etc.

  • It looks like you are free after you check in to the hotel on Day 7 until the Farewell Dinner that night. Be advised, even though you travel on a high speed train, there is no guarantee when it will depart Florence and arrive in Rome. Our high speed train was late arriving in Venice on Classic Italy. So, you shouldn't plan anything with a hard schedule that afternoon. However, the main problem with this trip and any Tauck tour that includes a visit to the Vatican, Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel, is that the entire schedule revolves around this visit, and is at the mercy of the Vatican- the schedule can change with little notice due to closures, special events, etc. Our actual 3 day schedule looked nothing like the published Classic Italy itinerary. Earlier this year a number of tours had their after-hours tours moved to the morning. Check out the Classic Italy and Classic Italy Small Groups forums for reports about thiss. The bottom line, to be safe, plan on a post stay or two. There is enough to see an do in Rome to fill several days!
