Basel excursions
We end our Rhine & Moselle cruise in Basel & are considering extending a few days. Is there much to see there? Does the trip to Rhine Falls include time in Rhine am Stein? What is the consensus of the excursion to the falls? Someone said it took 5 1/2 hours on the bus. Thank you for any help.

Our Rhine/Moselle cruise didn't have the falls as an option - we had Lucerne instead. It's less than 100 km from Basel to the Rhine Falls so 5 1/2 hours should include the return trip and stops. We've been to the falls on our own and it's lovely and worth the trip. Plus you get to see some of the countryside. The area around Basel is sort of flat and you don't really see mountains.
Basel has some nice sights. The town hall (red bldg with interesting courtyard art), a cathedral, a kinetic sculpture garden. The city also has some interesting pieces of modern architecture. If you're staying at a hotel there you get a free public transport card that can be used on trams and buses. We rode the trams to get around and also just to sit and see the city.
GailP519,
Whether or not to add post-tour days in Basel depends on your interests. The city has the highest concentration of museums in all of Switzerland so if art and culture are high on your list, it is well worth an extended stay. Enjoy!
The tourist office is located in the Stadtcasino in Barfüsserplatz. They sell tickets for guided tours, give recommendations for dinner and provide information about excursions. The email address is info@basel.com
I was there with a friend on the Rhine Enchantment tour in October 2019 and we chose the walking tour in Old Town with a local guide provided by Tauck.
Anyone been on the Tauck Rhine Falls excursion ? Would love comments.
