I think it is important to note that we did not inconvenience any of the other travelers on our trip or slow them down. We were fully able to keep up with all the other activities, which did not require a strenuous effort. We probably could have walked to meet the gorillas, but I think we might have then slowed down some of the others in our group for this one part of our trip. So it was to the benefit of everyone that we received this assistance from extra porters. By the way, I weigh 215 pounds, and four porters were able to lift and carry me as if it were nothing. We had to hire 8 porters, so I think they took turns carrying me.
I don't mean to encourage someone who has major physical disabilities to sign up for this type of tour, where they will become a drag on others. As usual, our Tauck TD was amazing in making sure that everyone was comfortable and well attended to. My wife had a couple of stomach/diarrhea issues pop up, and he was very attentive to her issues and both offered and arranged for a doctor to see her. Fortunately, they resolved themselves quickly and it just meant she missed a couple of meals. We have traveled a lot in the 25 years since I retired - all 7 continents and over 100 different countries. We have had COVID twice on journeys, and I've suffered through the norovirus 4 times. Glad we always have travel insurance.
