Any single travelers on land journeys to Spain and/or Portugal 2025?

I've enjoyed my previous Tauck tours, but I always traveled with a friend. I was curious if there are any other singles considering a small group land journey Spain and/or Portugal trip in fall or spring 2025? While typically everyone on the tour is friendly and welcoming, I would prefer not to be the only single person in the group.

  • Hi Beverley, I am considering several trips for 2025, including Spain and Portugal. I also will be traveling solo. Like you, I usually travel with friends. This would be my first solo trip.

  • Your odds for other solo travelers would be better with a large group tour.

Speaking from experience and memory, I have never not seen a solo traveler on land tours, particularly small group ones. You will quickly make new friends—either with other solo travelers or couples. This is merely my opinion, but as a solo traveler I would prefer the smaller groups since there will be less chance of being lost in a sea of people. We all have different preferences, however.

I have experienced all the Spain and Portugal land tours, as well the Douro cruise, and can vouch for all of them. Wonderful and enriching experiences and all very unique in culture, architecture and cuisine.

  • I respectfully disagree with Kfnknfzk - and whole heartedly agree with BKMD. A larger group gives you more variety of people to be associate with. Not everyone will be your cup of tea! Often times, there are groups who cling together and are not particularly ‘warm and friendly’ to ‘outsiders. I have been a solo on a number of land trips and I have also traveled with a group of friends. I’ve never signed up for a small group. Whether solo or with others regular sized groups works for me. I’ve never been excluded or lonely on a trip.

  • I respect your opinion, NancyCohen, and thank you for disagreeing respectfully. As I have said ad nauseam, there is no right or wrong, merely personal traveling styles and preferences.

  • I traveled solo this May on Scotland, England and Wales trip. We were a group of 22; most were friendly and welcoming but there were 2 groups of 2 couples (8 people) who were not interested in mingling. I think it just depends on the people in your group. It was a marvelous itinerary led by the amazing Georgie.

  • Most Tauck trips have a few departures with "Special Solo Traveler Savings". I would assume that those departures will have at least a few people traveling alone. When you call you could ask how many solo savings are available. That should give you some idea as to what to expect.

  • I made a friend who was traveling solo on the cruise from Glascow to Edinburgh 2023. We are doing Lisbon to Barcelona solo April 2025 on windjammer. . I am not sure if that is sold out I booked my eons ago. It's good to have a connection on the trip, tho I tend to wander as I am quite comfortable on my own on the trips.

  • Thanks for all the responses. For May 2025, I ended up booking the land journey Paris to Dordogne to Bordeaux as a solo traveler...it'd be great to hear from any other solo travelers on that trip.
