  • Google Viator and look at their tours.

  • The Alfama district (old Jewish section) in Lisbon is easy to do on your own in my opinion. The are many mom and pop eateries there specializing in regional cuisine.

The Plaza Mayor area of Madrid has numerous tapas bars. We have eaten at Botin and thoroughly enjoyed it. The mercado is a great place to roam and eat. If staying at The Palace Hotel, their restaurant is very nice. If staying on a Sunday, their brunch is phenomenal but reservations are mandatory since preference will be given to the locals.

  • Sorry for the typo(s) above. My antiquated phone is not allowing me to edit my comments. I’ll be so glad when my new electronics are ready!

  • We had fun on our last trip to Lisbon taking a food tour. We did “song of the Sea” with this company: https://culinarybackstreets.com/food-tours/lisbon/

  • In Lisbon you can get Rick Steves' book and follow his walking tours. We were there last summer and visited the tile museum. Don't hesitate to take cabs. They are efficient and very inexpensive relative to large US cities.

We had dinner at a wonderful restaurant not too far from the hotel. It's called Pateo 51. It's down a small alley which could be missed. It's a seafood restaurant with very fresh fish. Two of us shared a dish called Cataplana. It's a seafood stew with shrimp, monkfish, mussels, sweet potatoes, onions and peppers in a very nice sauce. It comes in a lidded copper pot. I recommend it highly.

We also went to Botin in Madrid. You need to make reservations at least a few weeks in advance.

  • Hi Sheri_B51- I will be going to Lisbon mid May and have booked a few tours with Lisbon explorers.
https://lisbonexplorer.com/tours-2.html. They have a 3.5 hour Jewish Lisbon private tour. The tour company was recommended by someone on the Tauck forum who had used them. Your hotel is probably another good source for setting up a tour.
