Essence of Japan luggage question

Since we have so many stops on this tour, am I correct we need to carry our own luggage from place to place? Should we only take carry on then since so many trains? At this age too hard to take regular luggage and hand luggage on trains. Please advise.

  • You have to pull your own carry on from the overhead bin quickly, line up at the door and walk off quickly on and off the train. There may be stairs to navigate up and down the platforms(Elevators are available but may be far from the train stop). Train stations can be crowded.

The regular luggage went with the porter and a separate carrier to your destination. You are only responsible for the carry on.

Some one on my trip was not fast enough, healthy enough, and strong enough. Her carry on went one direction and she went the other direction despite traveling with her young athletic 40ish son. Out wonderful TDs Larry and Nicole have to retrieve the carry on at the next stop.
