Free time In Prague

We want to make the most of our time in Prague We arrive a day early and should have the afternoon, then next day we are free till Dinner at Palace 5:30-6. The next day we have the Tauck tour of Prague and a free afternoon. What do you suggest we see that we will not see on the The Tauck Prague tour. I have read Jewish Town. We are going on the Salzburg excursion I have read some have done Cesky Krumlov on this free day is it worth it? Seems people love Prague walkers for private tours. What Seems we have a good amount of time what to see? Not clear if we are going to the Castle on the Tauck tour.

  • It sounds like you did your research here, so you know we toured Jewish quarter with Prague Walker, the regular tour with Tauck. We used Prague Walker for a day trip to Cesky Krumlov so we could go to Salzburg with Tauck.

  • Prague walker is great. Take the tour of the castle town area. There is so much to see that you won’t see on tour Tauck tour. You can have them skip the monastery because the Tauck tour allows you to go into the library itself. Go to the top of the city hall where you can see the workings of the clock and have great views of the city. Buy a ticket for lift when you enter. Spend some time on the Charles bridge and lesser town also not on your tour. IMO better than wandering around the Jewish quarter which is also great but you have some time constraints. In the evening grab a classical concert or just hang out and drink beer. Shen you go to the palace in Prague it is a stroll from the bus over cobblestone so no heels unless you carry them. Please see some of my other post.

  • I think on day two part of your afternoon is going to the cathedral and the monastery. You may only have a couple of hours late afternoon

  • Cesky Krumlov is definitely worth it as are Ben's suggestions of more time in town. We also liked Mucha's Slav Epic. The exhibit consists of about twenty enormous paintings of the history of the Slavs. I can't remember which museum has the collection but it is in town. We took a short bus ride and then walked back.

  • There's a wonderful beer hall in Salzburg but I doubt if Tauck takes you to it. Much better than the Hofbräuhaus in Munich, which is just a tourist place.
