Danube Christmas markets Dec 2025 Westbound
Another review of this trip. We were glad to start in Vienna. Great hotel - service and breakfast outstanding. The place to convert your dollars to euros - best rate by far at front desk. We arrived 2 days early to explore, and we did just that to see several markets day and night. Walk to St Stephans market at night. maybe 2/3 mile. very safe. lots of people. The entire walk is lit up very nicely for Christmas. Most vendors want euros for food or gifts. Also walked to largest market at City Hall at sunset. perhaps 1.2 miles ( lots of public transportation if you prefer ). You can't get lost, just follow the ring road that hotel is on. Great colors lit up everywhere, but very crowded on a Saturday night. Tauck picks you up at hotel for boat. Day 2 -Palace tour nice, buffet lunch just ok, but children's choir excellent. Tauck goes for short visit to City Hall market after dinner. Day 3- Abbey was worth seeing. Best photo of Abbey is across river when you take a walk. Day 4 Enjoyed walking thru Salzburg. Funicular to Fortress for lunch - much better than comments - tasty beef shank, beer or wine. great views of town outside after lunch. Market was excellent. Day 5 Passau - enjoyed Gingerbread Guru talk and market. Day 6 Regensburg - superb old world market. Day 7 Nurnberg - 3 options. we chose town walk into fort. a great choice for amazing photos. Nurnberg was our favorite market. old world, very special. My wife has wanted to take this trip for years. My concern that it would become boring was totally wrong. Mostly couples, some singles, all just having fun as usual. Nice quartet one evening on board. No need to bring sport coat. We were lucky - no rain. We wore comfortable hiking shoes for cobblestone streets. Temps in 30s - but some morning fog made for cool, damp start for walks. Arthurs ( back of boat ) a nice place for tasty lunch. As always, Tauck provided a great experience. hope pix work
