  • You will not be doing much walking. But…because of dust which is red and can stain, we wear closed toe sturdy shoes such as Merrill’s, if there is a walking safari as we had one time, you want to have closed toe shoes for that and you don’t know what you might be standing in Merrill’s, Lands End suede type waterproof shoes that we can hand wash when we get home. Some people wear old sneakers. Best to avoid black or dark blue socks because if there are tsetse flies around they will be attracted to them….i had a black band on a pair of socks and a fly bit right through them…the bites hurt and of course they can carry sleeping sickness.
Some people recommend shoes you can easily slip on and off, as I did on my first time there, but in reality once you get in the vehicles you can keep them off for the entire time so you can step on and off the seats….no shoes allowed on seats! So as long as you can bend down and tie shoes, laced ones will work.
