If you can afford all that extra money then by all means take the small group. However, if you find yourself in a small group where there are a number of people traveling together there may be less opportunity to join up with others. We rarely take small group, too conscious of all that extra money for the same tour.
If you enjoy all those extra people then by all means take the classic group. However, if you find yourself in a large group constantly having to wait on others (more chance of that happening in a large group) you may waste a lot of time. We rarely take the classic group, too conscious of the hassles of managing a larger group to see the same attractions.
And sometimes the small group tours stay at better hotels. 😁
I've done both size groups as a solo. I haven't really noticed the difference, except maybe waiting in line for the ladies' room at rest stops. I have met welcoming people on all tours, large and small.

Going in a large group gives you a better chance of finding someone to associate with.
If the small group has an number of people who are travelling together, there may be fewer people for you to associate with
Good luck
