Question

besides what Tauck takes care off, what is the tip percentage you would give to a bell boy that brings your laundered clothes, ice or a bartender.

Do we need a mosquito net for our hats? Tauck info that I just got mentions netting.

Are hiking shoes ok, we could get rains in October and get muddy? Or sneakers fine.

a dollar is fine.

Never taken nets for hats on any of my nine safari trips. Never seen anyone with them.

There are likely to be more mosquitoes in the rainy season.

We were in K and T some years ago when the short rains lingered into December.  The rain was torrential, thunder and lightning, flooded roadways, even one of the grass runways was a squelch. We had to divert to a different route to get to the lodge, it might have been the Four Seasons. A scheduled safari walk was not fun traipsing through muddy grass.  Otherwise you do very little walking on safari. We usually take waterproof sneakers or the like but not hiking boots… you need to be able to take them off easily in the safari vehicles so you can stand on the seats to view the wildlife which is the normal thing to do.

thanks British. don't have water proof sneakers so my hiking shoes will have to do. they are not high tops so I'll just tie them loose so I can slip on and off. I think we will have some rains so I better bring them they are waterproof.

Any one else ever used the mosquito nets during the Oct -Nov tours??

Only been in August. No one wore mosquito nets, but lots of people wore buffs to keep the dust away. There wasn't much skin exposed for people during our safaris - long pants, long-sleeved shirts, a hat, a buff, sun-glasses. Some people spray their shirts prior to the trips to help against bugs. We only used mosquito wipes for the few exposed areas.

Could be different for a Oct-Nov tour.

Some will try to tell you they can't use a dollar, due to banking rules; they'll ask for larger denomination.  These folks are just trying to shake you down.
