Ole Ole trip 8/9/14; recommendations for extra day in Madrid

We will be arriving a day early for this adventure starting Sat. We will have our 11 year old grandson with us.

Any suggestions of things he might enjoy on this "free day" in Madrid that would complement our Bridges "Ole, Ole" Tour?

Thank you,
Jim

  • Have not traveled to Spain with an 11 year old but here are some suggestions you might want to look into depending on your combined interests. Right in Madrid both the Prado and the Museum of Modern Art are worth visiting. The former has self-guided tours while the latter can be seen (just the real big names) in about 2 hours. About 25 miles outside of Madrid is the Escorial; the Royal Palace of Spain built by Phillip II in the 1500s and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also a UNESCO site the town of Toledo; about 45 miles outside of Madrid with its world famous Cathedral and Alcazar fortress. If you love "pig", don't miss the oldest restaurant in Spain (or perhaps even all of Europe) dating back to the early 1600s, BOTIN.
