in Jordan & Egypt: Petra to the Pyramids

We will be leaving on our Jordan and Egypt trip in 1 month. We are arriving in Amman 2 days early and were planning on spending a few hours doing a tour of the main highlights such as the King Abdullah Mosque, the Citadel, the Roman Theatre, and spice market. I am planning on e -mailing the concierge about hiring a driver for our excursion. For anyone who has done this my question is this-when I hire a driver does that mean the driver stays with us the entire time while we are exploring the sights? Or would he just get us to our destination and then wait for us in the vehicle. Should I ask for a tour guide or just a driver? We do not speak Arabic so it might be beneficial to have someone with us. On the other hand, I am not sure these sights require a tour guide. Thank you for any help !

    In general, the driver stays with the car. You need a tour guide in addition to a driver. The concierge can arrange for a tour guide.

    And you should get a tour guide.

    My "Jerusalem, the Red Sea and Petra" tour included the Citadel and Roman Theatre. I stayed an extra day and arranged a trip to the King Abdullah Mosque through the hotel concierge. I was surprised that even though I was dressed completely appropriately for a mosque (headscarf, long sleeves and long pants), I still had to don what I called a "Jawa" robe (a nod to Star Wars there). I'm convinced that it was because we had to go through the gift shop to get it and take it off.

    Yes. I had to wear one too. Pretty sure that contributed to my fall as it was far too long.

    Thank you all for these great tips. We have travelled quite a bit but never to the Middle East so I appreciate any advice. I was hoping not to need to wear the full robe but I will at least be prepared for that ! Hopefully its not sweltering in the mosque!

    I'm pretty sure that the King Abdullah Mosque was air conditioned. There are several areas that you will see, in addition to the main prayer room.
