Does Anyone have any recommendations on the bike ride around Avignon vs Tour of Avignon’s Palais des Papes? Also how about The Walking Tour of Aries vs The bicycling in the Aries countryside. Please advise. We are going in August. THanks

    When we did the Rhone back in 2014 we didn't have any options so I can't totally compare. However, I found the palace tour a bit boring. It's a beautiful stone building but I believe all the art/bling went to Rome when the papacy was returned there. The best view of it was the night we arrived in Avignon at sunset with the sun hitting it just right. A magical moment on the ship's sundeck. If you're big on catholic history though you might prefer it.

    For Arles I'd go with the walking tour which was very interesting. Lots of Van Gogh sights and the roman amphitheater.

    Unless you like hot weather, I would not recommend bicycling in southern France in August. We enjoyed Arles.

    Enjoy. The bucolic settings along the Rhône are so serene.
