Prague Logistics and Tour Specifics

We are excited for our upcoming Blue Danube cruise in July 2025. We arrive a day early yet I have so many things that I want to see in Prague so I need help figuring out how much time we have and try to efficiently tour the city:

Day 1 is on our own so I need to know how much free time we have for afternoon activities and reservations.
1. What is the meeting time for dinner at the Castle?

Day 2 the morning Tauck city tour itineraries mention “comprehensive tour of Prague’s well preserved Old Town focusing on the historical architecture of the city.” We want to prevent seeing the same things twice AND see places NOT on the itinerary as we tour on our own Sun & Mon.
2. What exactly is the tour route/stops?

Day 2 the afternoon is on your own, but docs reference “After lunch on your own, continue your exploration of Prague with a guided tour of Strahov Monastery, including a private visit to the famed library. If you wish, you will also have the opportunity to see the interiors of the magnificent Gothic gem St Vitus Cathedral whenever possible.”
3. What are the times for these?
4. Are we bussed there?
5. Does the St Vitus Cathedral visit include access to climb the tower?

Thanks for any insight you can share!

  • We did this tour in 2023. I would go back to Prague in a second.

Day 1: You will bus or van over to the castle complex. Leaving time should be 530 to 6 PM. You do have to walk by the cathedral and don't wear heels. If you must have heels put them in a bag and change into them once at the palace.

Day 2: You will walk to the main square, see the astronomical clock, then over to St Agnes Convent which you will go in. You will not go into the town hall, to Charles Bridge, St Wins Square, or lesser town all of which are worth seeing. In addition when you visit the castle complex you will go into the Stahov Monastery library. Most tours you look through the door. You don't get this with standard tour companies. You will go into St Vitus but not go up the tower. The Castle town has a lot more than just the Monastery and the Cathedral. PragueWalkers is an excellent tour company. We actually did their Jewish Quarter tour and the Castle Town/castle tours. Usually on day two you will have about 1.5 hours for lunch. We left the hotel at 2ish via van.

Notes: Classic.com has concerts in interesting venues. Most last about a hour to an hour and 15 minutes. Charles bridge is great to see at sunrise and sunset. It can be crowded during the day. There is a town hall in the main square. It is worth going into. You will be able to see how the astronomical clock works and go up to the tower to look over the city. There is a lift to the tower but you will need to pay extra when purchasing your ticket. Many people stay in the old town area but the lesser town has a lot to see.

  • Thank you so much Ben for your insight. This is so helpful!
