There were many nice sites in Kyoto but it was very crowded. It seemed different than I expected it to be. We saw many nice places and I think during a quieter time and more free time we may have been able to enjoy it more.
If you just came back, that is peak time to visit. It was not too bad when we went in September but then there were no cherry blossoms though we have been at that time. Golden week is also in May. Japan is THE place to visit right now.
