Can you give an idea of your interests? Also, you could google things to see and do in those cities. We enjoyed Zurich

  • As mentioned, it really does depend on your interests. Lucerne is a wonderful area to just stroll around in. If Tauck does not take you, I recommend walking over to the Lion Monument. It is one of the most poignant memorials I have ever experienced.

  • Thank you, Yes I have reviewed online trip advisor. and probably 4 travel guide books i.e. Rick Steves, Fodor, Frommer. I was looking for recommendation from a Tauck traveler for something that isnt offered on the tour. We like art, gardens but its mid October so not sure how much there will be.

  • In Lausanne, I enjoyed my walk up to the Cathedral Notre Dame and then down the covered stairs (Escaliers du Marche) to the town square - Place de la Palud. Eyewitness Guide has a great map of the old town.

  • Since we are into trains, we spent our extra day in Lausanne taking the Golden Pass Express (https://www.gpx.swiss/en/) from Montreux (a short easy trip on the commuter line that runs along the lake) to Zweisimmen where, after a short layover, you can return to Montreux and then back to Lausanne. Very scenic and you go through Gstaad (famous for high-level economic summits). In Lucerne, we took the commuter line along the lake for a short trip to a joint station with the Mount Pilatus cog railway (steepest in the world - https://pilatus.ch/en/railway-cableways/cogwheel-railway). From the summit you can return by train or take the cable car down on the Lucerne side where we had no trouble (after some web research) connecting with a bus back to the main railroad station in Lucerne where we started. You may detect a trend here.

  • Please see the previous thread on the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, IMHO it was worth visiting and the lake area was pleasant. We also did a Tour by Locals private tour which covered a lot of ground in Lausanne prior to being dropped off at the museum.
