Hanoi backstreet jeep tours
Has anybody done the Hanoi backstreet Jeep tour. If you have, what did you think of it and was it worthwhile. Did you do the four hour tour with the street food or just the 2 1/2 hour tour without the street food. We have an extra day in Hanoi and we’re looking for something a little different to do. Love to hear your experience.

Schustertravel, check out the Tauck Forum. There are some reviews about the Jeep Tour there. People have loved it!
Hi, schustertravel! I have posted previously about it so you’ll see my comments if you search the forum, but YES! I highly recommend the Backstreet Food+Culture+Fun tour. We had a lot of fun, had delicious and local food and saw sights that you won’t see with Tauck. Plus it was a cool experience to ride in an open air army Jeep among all of the motorcycles in Hanoi. People were friendly and some waved at us as we drove through various neighborhoods. We had various stops and had the opportunity to see the train as it passed on Train Street while we enjoyed a beverage. If you can, ask for Christina! She was dynamic and had great energy and made the tour even better! This was a highlight of our trip!
.Thanks Buonviaggio
Agree with buonviaggio. This was a trip highlight.
Can I arrange for the back street foodie tour when I arrive in my hotel in Hanoi…?
You may be able to do that. But it would be safer to contact the concierge at the hotel and arrange it before you arrive.
I agree with Mike. We pre-booked a Hanoi jeep tour using the Viator booking site.
Thank you I’m wondering what time people usually eat in Hanoi. We have a late arrival and I would like to go to a restaurant close by. Would 9 pm be too late? Any restaurant recommendations near by?
When I was in Saigon long ago, restaurants were open fairly late. I expect both Saigon and Hanoi have a robust night life.
A side note: The French had been in Vietnam for many years (back when I was there) and had trained the Vietnamese chefs. They could produce some wonderful French food. I really like Vietnamese food, and the native restaurants in Saigon were excellent.
British, did you contact and use the hotel’s concierge to book your jeep tour and the bay tour? I’m on a March 2026 tour and will be solo for a few days before the tour begins. Viator listings seem a bit overwhelming.
The tour director recommended both our tours and booked them for all of us. That’s all I can recall. A favorite Tauck TD we have had on three tour now.
Polly6022 - I pre-booked the Ha Long Bay tour through the hotel concierge. While I booked the jeep tour through the Viator booking site, I know others have done so with the concierge.
Hi, Polly6022! We booked both our Backstreet Jeep tour and our Ha Long Bay tour directly through the vendors. In both cases, they were very responsive and made it very easy to book. The communication was also excellent at the time of booking and then following up to the tour date. However, we did originally reach out to the concierge at the hotel asking for recommended cruises at Ha Long Bay, and they were also very responsive and helpful.
We booked direct as well. However we did get recommendations on boats from concierge. They were great as they gave us 3 different options and price points. We ultimately went with the Heritage Line Violet boat.
