    Botín in the Plaza Mayor area is favored by the locals. I have eaten there twice and it didn’t disappoint. Reservations are imperative.

    Mercado de San Miguel is excellent to wander through even if you don’t eat there. In that same area surrounding Plaza Mayor are numerous tapas bars. If staying at The Palace hotel adjacent to the Prado, they have a lovely Sunday brunch.
