Traveling solo for the first time - tips for S & P starting on 4/24/26

Hi all fellow Tauck travelers, I have not posted on this site for some time.
I'm looking for tips. This will be my first solo trip since my husband JohnS passed away last April.
As you already know the trip starts in Lisbon for 3 nights and I will be getting there a day early (This is norm for us).
I'm hoping for tips on sight seeing and dining for a new solo traveler. I know the Tour Director will provide some ideas, but from experience a lot of them aren't single traveler friendly.

  • Avenida da Liberdade is a beautiful, tree-lined boulevard that you can walk along down to the river. Admire all the beautiful limestone walkways and azulejos tiles along the way. Our favorite area is Alfama where you will find many eateries offering traditional Portuguese cuisine—sausages, beans, stews and octopus. You might enjoy a Fado performance—very soulful.

This was our favorite land tour. Enjoy and please consider posting a critique afterwards. All the best to you and welcome back to the forum.

Hi, give me a min. and I will privately mess. you with some ideas and name of companies that will help. You will love both countries; they are safe & beautiful.
Also, solo travel it's fun and even thought it will never compare to traveling with your husband, you're going to enjoy your own time, and having the freedom to see what interest you the most. Also, Tauck it's excellent catering to solo travelers, but just a word of advice... do not count on anyone or even on the TD, as much as they would love to help you, sometimes they don't have the time.
    I love it!

  • SueMS, while I can't help with your question I just want to say that I am so sorry that your husband passed away. He always had really helpful information and valuable insights for this community. I wish you all the best in your continued adventures.

  • Welcome back. Have a great time!

  • I've taken 15 trips with Tauck as a solo. Never had a TD that wasn't solo friendly. You will find your own rhythm within the group. And as mil says, you get to do your own thing.
