Cash for Turkey?

Going on Aegean Voyage next month which ends with the 3 days in Turkey. Is there any need to get Turkish Lira vs. paying for a meal or two, and shopping, with a credit card? We are not staying beyond the Tauck tour time.

    You will probably want cash for the street vendors there. Big purchases ( eg rugs 😊) take credit cards . Turkey is fabulous.

    Because of their inflation rate, you will see a lot of ATMs for poeple to get cash. Our guides (last year) preferred being paid in US dollars or Euros. We only used TLs in some small shops.

    We did use local currency for some small purchases, such as cafe, Metro, funicular.

    Here is the problem with Turkish currency: the largest denomination is 200 Lira which equals about $4.50. No coins. So, don’t do what I did and order $200 worth from my bank before I left. The stack of bills was about 2 inches thick! We used some in the markets but the vendors would have taken Euro or USD. Our leftover small denominations are our grandchildren's show and tell.

    We have been to Turkey a couple times and never used local currency.
