How much cash
Arriving two full days prior to official start of tour. Also may need cash for the "free time". Plus, when tour over, boarding ship for two week Japan cruise. Aware that some places will not take credit cards and cash is king. Just want to get an idea of an amount people have taken .I know it depends on what we purchase, Also aware of using atms there

ATM ‘s in seven elevens all over the place Visa is pretty popular these days.
We always plan $100 per day for a couple and convert to local currency. We order from our bank before traveling. If we don't spend it, we use it towards tips at the end of the trip.
I did this trip in 2023. The only thing we needed cash for was the train from Kyoto back to Tokyo (we spent several additional days there). For some reason, the ticket kiosks did not accept American credit cards (which I read about online before the trip). Everywhere else, including Tokyo subways and the trains from Tokyo station to the airport, our CCs worked fine.
