Shoes
I had planned to bring only two pairs of shoes -- one, somewhat dressy, the other, walking sneakers. Do I need sturdier shoes rather than sneakers?

No those will be fine. You might see some rain during the tour but no need for something sturdier.
I am not a sneaker person but as long as you believe you can be comfortable in them and they have an adequate amount of rubber on the soles, you should be fine. I would not recommend thin-soled shoes for touring. Enjoy.
Thank you.
I also don’t wear sneakers very often for tours but I do bring an extra pair of shoes suitable for walking just in case I have some sort of disaster with the first pair or they get very wet. Almost the most important piece of clothing you bring. One dressy pair is plenty.
Lots of cobblestones....................................I wore tennies always outdoors.
I have just discovered slip in Sketchers. Where have I been? They’re the best thing since apple pie. I do also like Hoka tennis shoes. I have real sensitive feet and have felt every cobblestone with a thin domed shoe so a shoe with a thick sole works for me.
