Problems Completing Payment for Kenya ETA

edited June 16 in Kenya & Tanzania

I am have completed our ETA application for Kenya, but cannot get it paid for. Have tried several US credit cards, and always get the "auth failed, try another method?" message. (The "alternative" method attempts to charge a small amount to your card, and tells you to look at your credit card account for a code associated with the charge, and then come back and enter the code.) When I do the alternate method, the system tells me the small random charge was successfully made to my card. However, the charge never appears on my card's online account--have waited nearly 24 hours since the first attempt. So, I never get the verification code and cannot go any further.

When I try to re-access the payment page, I'm returned to the Verification Code page. Of course, I have no such code, since the charge has never been reflected on the online credit card account.

Have tried with both Google Chrome and FireFox browsers with same results.

If you've experienced/solved this, can you help? Is there a way to use PayPal? Thanks.

  • We too had a similar problem with paying for the Kenya ETA. We called the credit card company to let them know this was a legitimate charge, and were able to proceed successfully! It came back in about 3 hours!

  • Thank you Diana, this was indeed an issue with credit card company. Chase Bank cards seem not to work at all, as Chase tells me they never received any transaction requests to deny--nothing at all, despite my multiple tries to charge this fee to a Chase card--they're somewhere out in the ether. My local credit union was finally able to get the charge approved, as I sat with a teller looking at my account real time to see exactly what was happening. Happily, my charge has finally gone through.

  • Terrific! Enjoy your trip.
