Legendary Scottish Isles, etc terrain shoe recommendations

What is the terrain like on the isles? I am trying to decide what shoes to bring for the excursions. Anyone else on September 15 , 2026 out of Edinburgh?

    A good friend of mine is going back to Scotland for the third time. She recommends a waterproof hiking shoe or light hiking boot.

    Hi Marsha, I am going on that trip. 100 days to go! My friend and I have bought good waterproof walking/hiking shoes and waterproof rain jackets.

    Hi! My husband and I will be on that trip also. Looking forward to it. I usually wear my Merrill hiking boots, but may look for a more comfortable option for in - town touring. Of course, my husband only ever wears his boat shoes in spite of my pleas.

    Did that trip last September. Beautiful but often rainy so definitely bring waterproof shoes with good grips. One silly woman wore flip flops, broke her ankle on the tour and had to be flown to the mainland from one of the isles. Lesson learned for all the rest.
