Buenos Aires - Pre/Post Suggestions

Booked on the January 4, 2027 tour. For those who have done this tour in the past do you have any suggestions on Pre/Post must do's? I'm getting ready to book my air and wondering if I should extend post tour? We always arrive a day or two early just in case since we are coming from the northeast and know there can be delays due to storms. TIA

    Hi Bill,
I traveled last January and I can suggest that you consider staying a day post-journey. The day you leave the ship, have a few hours in Ushuaia, go "down the road to airport," fly into BA is a very long day indeed. There was a family that stayed a day in Ushuaia and did some adventure hiking and loved it. Of course that was on their own, a not a gift of time with Tauck.

In Buenos Aires, we did a food tour with this company and really enjoyed it:

We happened to get Frank, the owner, who was great. I believe he also does a tour which is actually a meal at his home.

We missed La Recoleta Cemetary unfortunately, due to a miscommunication about the closing time (last entry is before closing time, please double check.) We also went to Don Julio steakhouse which was a nice experience. (but got talked out of getting the Ribeye, don't make this mistake!)

As far as cities, we really enjoyed Buenos Aires overall. It has a very European, albeit spread-out, sort of feel. Pickpocketing is bad. I must admit that I had heard so many stories, that I did not want to go anywhere without a gude, although we ventured out mornings without a problem. It is definitely a beautiful, interesting city with a lot to see.

If you feel like adding a couple of extra days and have not been to Iguazu Falls, that would be a definite consideration. It is a 1.5 hour flight from BA and the Gran Melia there gets good reviews from people here on the forum. That hotel can make all ground arrangements for you.

Alternate short side trips from BA that I did not do but sounded interesting were Bariloche in the mountains, and Montevideo, Uruguay.

    Have a great trip.
