It depends on your price range and whether you want to stay in the city center or close to the airport.

it is very easy to use the train from the city center to the airport

We stayed a couple of nights at a very modest hotel (a Rick Steves recommendation not a Tauck 4/5 star). The hotel helped arrange a transfer since there was 5 of us. It was easier and very reasonable even though we were close to the train station and sights.

Claudia Sails-what is the name of the hotel you stayed? We are not wanting to spend $1000 per night. But, would like to be near attractions and dining. Thanks!

    The Hotel Bristol. https://www.hotelbristol.ch/en/

Our room rate included breakfast and it was only soso. Definitely just continental breakfast i.e. cold items. It was in Sep 2021 when Europe had just barely started opening up to tourists. We used their laundry service - flat rate for a full bag - and they hand delivered a basket of clean laundry fresh out of the dryer ready to fold.

For things to do, we toured the Swiss National Museum about 5 minutes away. We also took the train to the Rhine Falls and Schaffhausen. The falls are amazing and Schaffhausen is a very quaint walkable town with an interesting fort on the hill. We went there due to family connections. It's fun to stroll along the Neiderdorf pedestrian street easy to get to from the hotel. Lots of little shops and restaurants.
