The InterContinental in Paris is located next to the Opera House. The hotel is one of our favorites in Europe. Hopefully it is still on this itinerary.
The riverboat is well appointed, the food excellent, the crew friendly and professional, and the common spaces and cabin are very comfortable.
You picked a great trip for your first cruise. I definitely recommend it. You will truly savor your way along the Rhône!
Yes, I agree with kfnknfzk! This was an outstanding cruise. We loved the Intercontinental near the Opera House. We arrived early and were able to get tickets to a ballet. Many great restaurants and shopping in walking distance as well. We loved the unique experiences on this tour such as making macarons at the Le Cordon Bleu cooking school, the winery visit, bike tour and so much more. Enjoy!
Mimitravels - That was such a fun day baking those macarons! And watching the dogs in Camargue searching for truffles and the hosts serving us truffles in their beautiful home. I wanted to stay there!
I read that the Palais Garnier will be closed for several years in order to remove lead and to perform a complete refurbishment. I think the work starts next year.
kfnknfzk - Ohhh the truffles! Yes, that was an amazing experience! Thanks for letting me know about the Palais Garnier. We are booked for the Bordeaux, Paris and the Seine in October and I was hoping to get tickets. Any suggestions of non tourist things to do in Paris?
There is also Opéra Bastille, but I have never been there.
I still enjoy wandering through Marais and Montmartre, especially riding the little train/trolly up the hill. I wander away from the main plaza area to get away from the crowds. There is a lovely cemetery and a winery. If so inclined, have a falafel in Marais.
The National Library of France is beautiful and offers a nice respite from the hustle and bustle. There is the American Library, but I haven’t been there.
The Palais Royal Gardens is small and relatively secluded within a courtyard. Very quiet.
Our favorite thing to do is to explore. We pick up a baguette and cheese, find a park bench and people watch. It’s always fun and rewarding to engage with locals, especially the children.
Enjoy your trip. I’ll be sure to look for your critique. We will be in Denmark next month on personal holiday. Can’t wait!
