recommended reading

Any suggestions for recommended reading before the Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand tour?

In the Shadow of the Banyan by Vaddey Radner focuses on the Cambodian genocide...very moving and beautifully written...there is a follow up book, Music of the Ghosts, but I liked the first one better...there are many Vietnam war novels and non-fiction, but my favorite is ]The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. If you are interested in checking out some films, I highly recommend the documentary, Dear America: Letters Home From Vietnam. Try to keep a dry eye when “Silent Night” begins playing.
  • After we came back from the Vietnam, Ca,bodia amd Laos tour earlier this year, Tauck sent us a copy of the Ken Burns DVD the Vietnam War.
  • I am part way through "First They Killed My Father" by Loung Ung. So far, it's a good read. I have not yet started "The River's Tale: A Year on the Mekong" by Edward A. Gargan, but it's next on my list.
