All true, but they are fine to live in as a single (or even my husband and I have stayed in Cat 1 five times). It's the only option for singles to NOT pay a premium and to be able to pay what others pay. None of the cabins have a balcony you can walk out on. Any free time is spent on the sundeck or in the panoramic lounge, so the window situation isn't a big deal to us. While a bigger room is nicer, we are just happy to be able to travel with Tauck, so we don't mind a smaller room. We prefer to spend money on staying in Europe longer Pre and Post cruise than on a room (we have to budget). Plus, we have single friends who can travel with us on Tauck cheaper than on Viking (which charges a single supplement) and have a much better experience. (We've cruised on Viking, Uniworld, and Tauck). On occasion, we get the LOFT rooms, but that isn't an option for Singles and our European vacation is just as amazing whichever room we get. The Service is just as fantastic for us. I just don't want any solo travelers to think the Cat 1 rooms are not ok, they are perfectly fine, small- but nice with great service and you are only in the room to sleep, change clothes, and shower.
I remember one husband and wife couple said they get two category 1 rooms next to each other or across the haljwsy so each can have their own bathrooms and more closet space. There is a part of me that believes that is a brilliant concept.

Well said, terrilynn. Singles should also know that on many cruises, Tauck offers $1,000.00 off on certain cabin categories for certain travel dates.

Sounds like a good plan. Personally My wife and I like to sleep next to each other.
