Hi, Thomas. It's nice to meet another traveler who likes Eastern Europe! I was a Russian language major in college and spent a fabulous summer of 1969 in the Soviet Union on a study tour. We spent a month in Leningrad, then several days in each of Moscow and Kiev, and a month in Baku. (So, I get to check off "Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaidjan" as countries that I have visited.) In 2006, 13 of the 24 of us had a reunion -- we met in Finland and took the train to St. Petersburg, where we were lucky enough to visit the dorm we lived in while studying at Leningrad Polytechnical Institute. Some of the group went back to Moscow from St. Petersburg, but I came home. I have thought about taking the boat trip from St. Petersburg to Moscow, but don't want to support Putin's economy. Where do you live? I'm in NH now, but just over the MA border. It's essentially a Boston suburb, and I consider myself a Bostonian, because I grew up there.
