I did this trip a few years ago. For me, there was no need for local currency. They accepted CCs or USDs everywhere I went, which included some local markets.1 -

Sending them home seems a bit harsh, British. Perhaps a "This activity is too strenuous for you. You need to sit this one out" is better.2
