anyone know why Tauck has left the egypt tour of 2016 showing under Africa? Do you think they will be offering that again? I am noticing that National Geographic and Viking are now operating tours back to Egypt in 2019, 2020. Anyone been?

The tour has been listed with the disclaimer for quite a few years now- Joycesw was within a few weeks of going before Tauck cancelled it during the Arab Spring.

I'm sure Tauck regularly evaluates their ability to conduct this tour safely and in Tauck style. If and when conditions are safe and they can provide suitable tour experiences and lodging, they will start it up again. Frankly, I can't wait! : )

thanks Alan, and FYI, I cancelled my booking on the May Botswana trip next year. Sorry I won't be meeting up with you and your wife! Decided to take my sister back to Galapagos with me end of March, so not able to travel again so soon after that. I am very very interested to hear your review when you return.

My group (party of four) was probably among the "last" Tauck group to do the Egypt tour in February 2011. (We had booked some earlier dates but kept getting cancelled. Tauck's travel insurance covered all of the airline change fees, et cetera). As our bus was leaving the Museum in Cairo (heading to the airport for our chartered flight to Abu Simbel), the crowds were starting to riot in the Square outside the museum. Of course there was damage to the museum after our group was gone. Our armed escort on the bus carried a machine gun. The vendors were desperate to sell something so we had lots of gifts to carry home. We rode camels. My sister rented an Arabian stallion to race across the dessert since she was curious why Arabians were so highly prized. The horse was really fast and her ride was glorious!

The Egypt tour is easily my favorite tour to date because we had such a spectacular tour with a wonderful Tour Director. There were no crowds and so we lingered at the attractions. We wore Arab robes/ dresses/ wigs, head dresses and jewelry on board the ship (as well as to the evening meals). The men dressed up as sheiks and everybody wanted to be in photos with us. There was a big party during the cruise with the ships' crew dancing in the aisles to music of their own making. There was a whirling dervish performance and belly dancing. We had a very competent balloonist when we went over the Valley of the Kings. Somehow we landed exactly where we had taken off from (unlike a "runaway" balloon ride that we had in Kenya). The sights were intriguing.

IF the trip becomes available with Tauck, you must visit Egypt!

I know this is a Tauck forum, but after stewing for a couple of years because Tauck had cancelled its Egypt trip, I realized that there are other fish in the sea, and booked a trip with another high-end company. It was the best tour I've taken. If you want to go to Egypt, go. Things aren't going to get any better over there. I've now been able to cross "cruise down the Nile" off my bucket list. I'm back with Tauck and will soon cross "snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef" off the list.

I also hope to go to Egypt one day. This year is not the best time to go as they are still finishing the Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza. This huge museum is the successor to the old Cairo museum. It will open partially this year and display all of the artifacts from Tutankhamun's tomb for the first time. I'm not sure when it will open fully.

Another luxury tour company (probably the one MCD referred to) never stopped going and had some great deals in the past few years. I'm hoping that Tauck will reinstate their tour by 2020. If not, I'll try the competition. Now all I have to do is convince my wife of the safety of visiting Egypt.
