Is the optional lord of the ring tour run by Tauck, or just set up by them...AND is the Milford Sound tour run by Tauck

    Tauck doesn't really run any local tours; they contract with local providers that they have vetted. In my experience, the Tauck Tour Director accompanies Tauck guests on optional tours. Our TD was on our Milford Sound boat trip (in 2018), but I don't remember that boat trip as having been described as "optional." Actually, any tour can be "optional." If you don't want to go on a tour, just inform the TD that you're not planning on going.

    Yes, they can either go on the Lord of the Rings tour or Milford Sound (Milford Sound was incredible). You have free time in Queensland, so you may contact one of the private companies (check out Tripadvisor).
