FOOTWEAR AT CHRISTMAS MARKETS
Do we need to bring snow boots or will a sturdy leather walking shoe suffice. Boots are heavy so don't want to take them if not needed.

I will be taking my first holiday cruise this year and do not plan on taking traditional snow boots. I have spent many winters in Scandinavia and have never needed boots in the major cities. My leather ankle boots with low heels and excellent traction have worked well for me on all tours no matter what time of year I travel. It's a personal choice, of course.
I'm also taking my first Christmas Markets River Cruise this year, but along the Danube and I purchased the below to wear. I have LL Bean boots that are way too heavy to bring with me. I bought these last year to wear in the Winter to make sure I would like them and I do.
If all goes well, then I'll put these away for the Christmas Markets along the Rhine that I recently booked for 2024!

No boots needed.
You will not likely encounter any snow, but maybe a little rain. Wear what you would normally wear for walking around town at home, but realize many places have cobblestone streets. I'm a guy, so just wore Rockport lightweight casual leather shoes or Merrill sports/hiking sneakers.
I agree with Alan. Those Merrells are great.
Rock port has filed for bankruptcy
My husband and I like the Blundstone original boot. They are made in Australia and are a bit pricey, but they hold up well, are waterproof, super comfortable and cute enough to wear with slacks for dinner. They come in many colors and styleshttps://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https://www.afar.com/magazine/an-in-depth-review-of-vegan-blundstone-boots&psig=AOvVaw38YzYDyKs6XxQwzaPozDFv&ust=1687705708658000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CBAQjRxqFwoTCKD2uuyX3P8CFQAAAAAdAAAAABAE
Not only are they comfortable and versatile, they provide excellent support and traction. I sometimes tuck in the pull straps when wearing them with "skinny" jeans.
