Rhine River - temperature n May
For those of you who have been on the Rhine the first of May, are the temperatures warm but not hot, like the Mid-Atlantic US at the same time of year? Beginning to think about packing for my Rhine River Enchantment cruise. Thanks.

Weather is unpredictable, especially with climate change, but spring and fall are usually perfect times for European travel. I would characterize the temperatures as moderate; cool, especially the farther north you travel.
I recommend a mix and match wardrobe that can be layered. A light jacket or wrap for outerwear is all you will need in the evenings in my opinion. You might wish to take a lightweight rain jacket with hood.
Enjoy your trip!
When we went on the Rhine Christmas Markets cruise, we heard an insightful quote attributed to the Germans, “there’s no bad weather, only poor wardrobe choices”. Layer up always works and take an umbrella.
We did this tour last July and we weren’t hot at all. It got warm when we got to Milan (80’s) but comfortable.
Also, when viewing the castles along the Rhine from the top deck, there will be blankets for your comfort should it be cool or breezy.
The ship has umbrellas for your use. You will find one in your cabin. If not, the reception desk has them.
You can look up average temperatures on WeatherSpark. I should think the Lake Como area will be cool . We took the tour in 2019.
