Hard sided luggage vs. duffle bag

I have been informed from a Tauck rep that my hard sided luggage is okay for the SA Elegant tour. I've had friends question this based on their African travels and using smaller planes. What has any previous traveler found to be true as far as luggage requirements/restrictions. Wanting any recommendations regarding luggage, packing, etc.

This is what the Tauck website stares about luggage restrictions for the Elegant Adventure tour:

"Checked luggage aboard the on-tour flights to and from Johannesburg and Victoria Falls may not exceed 44 lb (20 kg).

In addition, guests are limited to one soft-sided, carry-on bag per person not to exceed 15 lbs (6.8 kg), and no larger than an average knapsack."
